Dental implants, how long do they last?
Dental implants are a perfect solution when there is a loss of one or more dental pieces.
Dental implants are made up of three parts: the titanium implant, the abutment, and the crown. The part that is inserted into the jaw bone and functions as the root of the tooth is the titanium implant. On top of this, the pillar is placed, which connects with the crown. The crown is the visible part of the artificial implant that performs the function of a natural tooth.
Dental implants have many benefits for dental health. Some of these benefits are:
-
Duration: Being made of titanium (a resistant material), dental implants can last for years, even a lifetime. To guarantee this duration, it is necessary to follow the premises dictated by the dentist who performs the placement. Proper oral hygiene is also essential for good durability. This can be affected for two reasons: the quality of the implants and the experience of the dentist.
-
Comfort: they do not bother to eat or talk.
-
Aesthetic: They look more real than, for example, dentures.
Although there are benefits, we can also find different drawbacks. Among these, we highlight the necessary care so that they last in the long term and the price of the implants.
Durability
For implants to last, rigorous care is necessary. This care involves good dental health, that is, having proper oral hygiene and good general health.
High prices
Something to take into account when placing a dental implant is the price of these.
Dental implants tend to be more expensive than other dental treatments, such as dentures or dental bridges. The prices of the implants vary for three reasons: for the material of the dental prosthesis, for the surgery that includes the placement of the implant, and for the follow-up visits to check that everything is correct.
In Spain, the prices of dental implants are usually between 1,500 and 2,000 euros. For this reason, we recommend that, before deciding where to perform the treatment, you compare the different prices offered by the clinics or, alternatively, take out dental insurance that covers implants. That is, it covers part of the treatment or has a discount, in order to have a reduction in the cost of treatment.
Although the prices are usually high, we recommend you invest in a good dental prosthesis and an experienced surgeon, to avoid problems.
